ESWC faces bankruptcy

The parent company of ESWC, Games-Services, is undergoing liquidation which means all bisuness operation will cease to exist and all employees and managers will be relieved from their duties. This stands clear after yesterday's press release on Games-Services.com.

Should Games-Services have enough assets to pay their debts, another company might take over after an organized "trade-in or resale of the company's assets" which includes the Electronic Sports World Cup and the website overgame.com.

Earlier reports and press releases surfaced the financial difficulties the company were experiencing, which forced a postponement of the Grand Finals.

The ESWC Masters of Cheonan, financed by local sponsors in South Korea, will still take place from May 2 to 5.

Cyber Fusion 2009

According to Guinness World Record 2009: Gamer’s Edition - page 177, the current record for longest mass-participation LAN Party is 36 hours and was done by 203 gamers at NVISION 2008. Looks like the record is going to be broken in few months time at our own backyard.

The longest LAN Party record breaking attempt will be held at an event called Cyber Fusion, organized by AMD, Cyberview Sdn. Bhd., GameGen and Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) with collaboration from Game Developers’ Club (GDC) of Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya. This event will take place from Friday, 10th April until Sunday, 12th April at Grand Hall, MMU Cyberjaya.

Breaking records will not the only thing to be done at Cyber Fusion. Other activities will include GameFest’09 by GDC which incorporated Boardgames, Cybergames and Game Development sections. Cyber Fusion itself will have a tournament featuring Call of Duty 4, Counter-Strike 1.6, DoTA and FIFA’09, with cash prizes said to be in total of more than RM 45,000!

Right now, details are still pretty sketchy, apart from those that we wrote above. The event information actually was not made known directly, instead it was (partly) revealed by GDC’s announcement of next week’s E-Sport 09, whereby top two teams or players from FIFA’09, CS1.6 and DoTA will be seeded directly into Top 16 of Cyber Fusion.

Do look forward to more information about the event, once we received more of it at the press conference, scheduled to be held at Cyberjaya next Friday, 6th March - as told by GameGen’s representative in a short phone conversation yesterday. They also wish to invite fellow gamers that are interested to participate in the record breaking attempt to the conference as well, so keep an eye on Multiplay periodically for updates.

Stardock Release "FENCE"

Fences is a one-of-a-kind program, allowing you to draw labeled shaded areas on your desktop, which become movable & resizable containers for your desktop icons. These groups can help bring organization and consistency to your computer's desktop, solving the "constant mess" problem that has plagued the desktop since its inception.

Fences also helps you finally appreciate the wallpaper you have hiding behind all that clutter.
In addition to its organizing features, Fences offers a novel quick-hide feature (in-patenting-process). Double click your desktop, and all your icons will fade out. Double click again, and they'll return.
